Building on the introductory class in enamelling (with Carl M. Durance, July 23 to 26), this class introduces the ancient art of cloisonné, an advanced and exciting form of enamelling. Metal wire (copper for us) will be used to create a framework of cells on a metal surface (also copper) in which opaque and/or transparent enamels are applied. Special attention will be focused on designing with wire, firing layered transparent enamels, and advanced kiln firing techniques – to create your own heirloom jewellery.
