Michael was born in Owen Sound and grew up in Southampton. He began taking photographs of his family and friends at the age of thirteen and learned how to develop and print photographs in the high school camera club. Michael continued to print in makeshift darkrooms in his parents' basement, and other than a few workshops and attending the photography program at Santa Monica College in Los Angeles, he is mostly self-taught. He is the recipient of two Ontario Arts Council grants, has been published in Camera Arts magazine, and won judges selection in Iford's International Black &White juried competition and Best New Work on Paper at the Tom Thomson Memorial Art Gallery. Michael exhibits his work internationally and currently divides his time between Los Angeles and Southampton. |
