“By going out into the natural world, I’m actually going in”
John Muir
I am compelled to document the landscape and remind the viewer of the beauty at our doorstep. I try to evoke the feeling of mystery and yearning that Nature gives us.
My modern realism style has aspects of impressionism and abstraction. Fascinated by the interplay of shadow and light on form, I keep brush stokes to a minimum and use multiple glazes to build the painting. Thus my work is referred to as “lively and spontaneous”. These paintings are based on observations of nature, but the resulting work is from the heart.
As more and more of the countryside disappears and becomes urban sprawl, this compulsion becomes my mission.
