From my early childhood on the outskirts of Johannesburg, flying kites and exploring the fields near my home, I have been deeply influenced by the natural beauty, colours and textures of the South African landscape. After studying pottery with Valerie and John Edwards, two Johannesburg artists, I worked with my mother teaching the art of pot-making, and activity I continue today.
In 1980, I immigrated to Canada, to a rural apple-growing community on the shores of Georgian Bay—another landscape that inspires my work. I make articles – both functional and whimsical – of stoneware and porcelain clays produced on the wheel and free form, and though most of my products are one-of-kind, I do accept works on commission. All are oven, microwave and dishwasher safe, as well as barium and lead free. |
